KCP&L Solar Power Rebate

How it works

Effective January 1, 2010 KCP&L is offering Missouri customers $2 per watt*, up to 25 kilowatts, for qualified photovoltaic (PV) solar systems installed on their home or business. The rebate is made possible by the Missouri Legislature and the Missouri Public Service Commission, who are working with utilities to increase renewable solar energy generated in the state.

Applications accepted by the Company will expire after 12 months if the Customer has not satisfied the terms of this tariff or if the Solar Electric System has not become operational. The rebate is made possible by the Missouri Legislature and the Missouri Public Service Commission, who are working with utilities to improve energy efficiency in the state.**

A rebate payment will be issued when all of the following have been met:

  1. A complete application has been approved by KCP&L
  2. The PV system is operational
  3. The PV system is properly interconnected with the KCP&L's electric distribution system

* For the purpose of determining the amount of rebate, the PV system wattage rating will be recognized as the direct current wattage rating provided by the original manufacturer.

** For some residential taxpayers, the Solar Power Rebate may be excluded from taxable income and reduce your tax basis in the property for determining the investment tax credit for qualified solar energy property.  However the Solar Power Rebate may be treated differently depending on your individual tax circumstances.  The company recommends that interested customers consult with their own tax advisors concerning the application of the tax laws to their particular situation.
