KCP&L Solar Power Rebate
What is it?
Effective January 1, 2010 KCP&L is offering Missouri customers $2 per watt, up to 25 kilowatts, for qualified photovoltaic (PV) solar systems installed on their home or business. The rebate is made possible by the Missouri Legislature and the Missouri Public Service Commission, who are working with utilities to increase renewable solar energy generated in the state.
Solar power converts sunlight into electricity by using PV or by boiling water with the sun and causing generation. PV is the most popular type of solar power and can be seen in panels, strips or blocks. The cells collect light from the sun and convert it into DC, which then must be converted to an AC current so that electricity can be used in homes and businesses. The PV system must be interconnected to our grid in order to function properly. PV panels are angled to collect the most sunlight, but if there is not enough sunlight, there will not be enough electricity generated to power your home or businesses. Therefore, you will need backup power from the grid to generate your power.
