Plug-In Electric Vehicles

Utility Fleet

Electric:
KCP&L recently purchased three all-electric emission-free trucks made by Smith Electric Vehicles -  a bucket truck, a box truck and a flatbed.

The box truck, used by Underground, contains all necessary equipment, along with an inverter that allows crew members to power their tools, rather than using a gas generator. All three trucks can travel 100-150 miles per charge at a speed of 50 miles per hour.

Hybrid:
We have 13 Ford Fusion hybrid-electric cars and two hybrid-electric bucket trucks.

Alternative Fuel:
We have 191 ethanol fuel vehicles, 650 biodiesel fuel vehicles.

KCP&L was recognized by the National Biodiesel Board for being the first commercial fleet in Missouri to use biodiesel.
