KCP&L Programmable Thermostat

How it works

The programmable thermostat is installed by a certified Honeywell technician, who sets it to accept signals from KCP&L to reduce your air conditioning unit when demands on our system are high.  The technician will also show you how to program it for maximum savings.

Your thermostat is Web programmable from anywhere you have an Internet connection - home, work, or even on vacation. Log on to Programmable Thermostat. 

On the hottest weekday afternoons from June through September, demands on KCP&L's system are the highest. At these times, we may cycle your air-conditioner compressor off and on for 15-minute increments, for no more than four hours. We call this a "cycling event." Your thermostats will display the word "SAVE" and the air-conditioning fan will continue circulating air throughout your home or office.

Cycling events will not occur on weekends or holidays. And, Programmable Thermostat customers may choose not to participate one time per month by calling toll-free, (866) 882-4429, or via the Internet. 

Typically there are fewer than four cycling events per year, with an average of approximately three hours.
