Cool Homes - Missouri Customers Only

What is it?

Cool Homes is a rebate program that helps KCP&L customers maintain the operating efficiency of central A/C systems and offsets the cost of upgrading to a new high-efficiency system. KCP&L customers can save energy and reduce cooling costs while staying comfortable all summer long.

KCP&L offers instant rebates up to $850 for Missouri customers through participating HVAC dealers toward the purchase of a new energy-efficient A/C or heat pump.

KCP&L customers may have their existing central air-cooling system tested by Check-Me!-trained HVAC contractors to see if it qualifies for a rebate toward a high-efficiency air conditioner or heat pump. See eligibility page for details.

Special Information for Kansas Customers:
For Kansas customers, the Cool Homes pilot program has ended. KCP&L wants to continue our pilot programs and make them permanent. However, there are a variety of opinions in the community about the best way to proceed. Therefore, we are allowing Cool Homes to reach its natural conclusion as a pilot program until we can work with parties to find a framework that provides benefits for all stakeholders. We remain committed to energy efficiency and plan to offer Cool Homes or a similar program when that framework is in place.

Please consult this list of important dates below if you are a Kansas customer in the process of purchasing or investigating the purchase of a new HVAC unit for your home.

In April, we filed with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) to end the Cool Homes pilot program in Kansas. This filing was approved by the KCC on June 22, 2011. However, the following table outlines the timeline for any outstanding work.
