Contractor Information
HVAC contractors wishing to participate in the program may contact KCP&L directly for consideration. To qualify for incentives, prospective contractors will be required to complete training courses and utilize CheckMe! to participate.
- Check Me! System Evaluations. The HVAC contractor evaluates the customer's cooling system using a standardized testing process designed by Procter Engineering Group, called CheckMe!. The test evaluates performance measures such as refrigerant charge and airflow over the evaporator coil. CheckMe!TM is a turnkey system that produces reliable energy savings, peak energy reduction, and requires minimal administrative work on the part of an HVAC contractor. To ensure proper equipment operation in the field, CheckMe provides the HVAC contractor with a monthly report that details production, quality assurance and project goals achieved.
- System Re-Commissioning. Customers with equipment that require adjustments or repairs may be offered an opportunity to return the equipment as close as possible to manufacturer specifications (restrictions apply, see chart below for details). Contractors receive a payment for each re-commissioned system.
- Contractor Recommendation for System Replacement. All contractors may provide customers with a proposal for replacement of an existing system with a higher efficiency system. A Cool Homes instant rebate may be available to the customer when they choose to have their system replaced before it fails (rebate requirements and amounts are described below). The customer is responsible for the cost of the replacement equipment less the applicable incentives.
- System Re-Evaluation after Work Performed. Where work is performed, a second CheckMe! evaluation must be completed to verify the re-commissioning modifications or ensure the quality installation of new equipment.
- No-Work Option. The customer may choose to do nothing.
- Compact Fluorescent Light Incentive. Six compact florescent lights will be mailed to all customers completing the initial CheckMe! process regardless of their equipment choices.
Rebate Incentives for Participating HVAC Contractors
KCP&L provides financial incentives (paid monthly) to the HVAC contractor upon completion of a CheckME! system check, and/or after installation of new equipment (rebates are passed to the customer as a line item on the invoice). This is intended to offset a portion of the equipment's higher initial cost to the customer and to ensure quality installation.
To qualify for incentives, contractor's technicians who will test and replace air-conditioning units must have undergone training and utilize CheckMe!.
