Builder Rebates
Builders who meet the eligibility requirements will receive $800 per home under KCP&L's ENERGY STAR New Homes Program. KCP&L will also pay Home Energy Rating System (HERS) raters up to $750 for the inspections and HERS rating requirements for a builder's home to achieve the ENERGY STAR label.

New homes earn the ENERGY STAR designation by meeting rigorous energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  In 2006, 12% of all new housing starts nationally were ENERGY STAR qualified. In many areas, ENERGY STAR homes represent 20% or more of local home starts.

Special Information for Kansas Customers:
For builders and raters in Kansas, the ENERGYSTAR New Homes pilot program has ended. KCP&L wants to continue our pilot programs and make them permanent. However, there are a variety of opinions in the community about the best way to proceed. Therefore, we are allowing ENERGYSTAR New Homes to reach its natural conclusion as a pilot program until we can work with parties to find a framework that provides benefits for all stakeholders. We remain committed to energy efficiency and hope to offer this or a similar program when that framework is in place.

Please consult this list of important dates if you currently have a permit pending on a new home.

We have filed with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) to end the ENERGYSTAR New Homes pilot program in Kansas. While we anticipate the process will be finalized with a KCC ruling within 30-60 days, it could take longer. Therefore, we cannot provide exact dates for when program changes will take place. However, the following table outlines a relative timeline.

Day of KCC approval 30 days after KCC approval Six months after KCC approval
Begin wrapping up open jobs, discontinue promotion of program. Homes permitted within 30 days after KCC approval will be eligible for rebates. Homes permitted more than 30 days after KCC approval will not be eligible for payment. Homes that were permitted within 30 days after KCC approval have six months to be built and rated. Homes that are rated more than six months after KCC approval will not be eligible for payment.
