Affordable New Homes

How it Works

Builders apply specific energy efficiency measures, pre-defined by ENERGY STAR® and available through their website, to a new home.  The measures include high efficiency heating and cooling equipment, shell measures, lighting, and appliances.  Where applicable, ENERGY STAR® rated equipment is specified. Once construction is completed, the builder may apply for the appropriate incentive.

  • $800 toward energy-efficient central cooling equipment (14 SEER or greater)
  • $400 toward insulation upgrades R42 Attic, R25 Floor or R19 Crawlspace
  • $200 toward an ENERGY STAR-rated refrigerator
  • $100 toward ENERGY STAR-rated lighting fixtures

Energy Efficient Central Cooling Equipment
Installed properly, high-efficient cooling systems can save up to 20% on heating and cooling costs.

Insulation Upgrades
More than 40% of the energy consumed in a tyical household goes to heating and cooling. Increased insulation reduces energy consumption, which in turn helps to lower utility bills.

ENERGY STAR®-rated Refrigerator
Energy Star refrigerators use at least 15% less energy than required by current federal standards and 40 percent less energy than conventional models sold in 2001

ENERGY STAR®-rated Lighting Fixtures
Energy Star lighting fixtures use one-fourth the energy of traditional lighting fixtures. In addition, replacement lights must be compact fluorescent lights, which use 66 to 75% less energy than a standard incandescent light bulb.
