KCP&L may offer tuition scholarships for continuing education to individuals involved in economic development and chamber of commerce management in its service territory.
Because some budgets cannot support the cost of training, many outstanding people may not obtain the continuing education and important networking with others in their field necessary for developing professionalism and a strong implementation program. An often-ignored fact is that such continuing education is not an expense; it is an investment in the future.
KCP&L wants to help communities we serve make an investment in their staff and in the success of their future development efforts. Such staff may be employed by a chamber of commerce, economic development corporation, city or county government, regional group or other organizations. Many of the programs KCP&L supports are the first in a series of annual seminars. It is our hope that the participant and community will derive enough benefit from first- year participation to support attendance in future years.
Eligible Courses and Expenses
Tuition scholarships are available for the following courses:
- US Chamber of Commerce - Institute for Organization Management
- Basic Economic Development Courses
- National Development Council business financing courses
- Economic Development Institute (EDI)
- Business Retention Expansion International
KCP&L will consider other training opportunities relevant to building community economic development capacity. Priority will be given to the first course of a series and to participants or communities that have not previously received scholarships. The participant or community will be responsible for transportation, room, board and incidental expenses.
Scholarship recipients are eligible for the "member rate" for IEDC and US Chamber of Commerce accredited courses. Scholarship payments will be made directly to the recipient's organization. The recipient is responsible for timely registration and reservations.
